Meet German Content Creator Dave
Hi, I’m Dave — a German content creator from the Sauerland, a beautiful and green region in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by language, storytelling, music, and media. That’s why I started writing my own stories very early.
One of my earliest memories is from elementary school. I used to write short stories that classmates could read in a shared folder. Even then, I knew I loved to entertain and share knowledge.
Throughout my time at Gymnasium (German high school), I focused on language and culture. I studied German, English, and Latin, which really shaped my curiosity about how language connects us.
What drives me?
At the end of the day, my goal is simple. I want to share my love for the German language and culture in ways that are fun, real, and meaningful — whether through videos, podcasts, or gaming.
Because of that, I want people to see German not just as a subject, but as a living language full of stories, songs, humor, and connections.
How My Content Journey Began
After my A-levels in 2011, I launched my first YouTube channel: DaveDurdenTV.
What started as a fun way to share Let’s Plays in German quickly grew into a community where people enjoy retro games, storytelling, and commentary in authentic German.
In 2015, my passion took another turn when I connected with Get Germanized. Inspired by his videos about German culture and language, I launched my second channel — what you now know as Definitely German.
A funny fact: I actually decided to start the channel while taking a bath — one of those “Why not now?” moments that changed my life.

I owe a lot to the creators who inspired me. Get Germanized not only became a collaborator but also a good friend.
Back then, I was also inspired by SamWaltonMan — an American exchange student in Stuttgart who made funny and insightful videos about Germany from a foreigner’s view. His unique approach showed me how valuable authentic perspectives can be.

Definitely German
On Definitely German, I help people learn German naturally by creating English-language videos. I break down real grammar, slang, music, pop culture, and everyday German life in a fun and accessible way.
DaveDurdenTV
DaveDurdenTV is my German Let’s Play channel. Here, it’s all about retro and story-driven games — from PS1 classics like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot to modern adventures like Alan Wake and Tomb Raider.
While the focus is on entertainment, many learners enjoy the channel because it’s a natural way to hear authentic spoken German.
Definitely German Podcast
In 2020, I revived my passion for audio and launched the Definitely German Podcast. Since 2021, new episodes have been dropping every Wednesday — covering music history, pop culture, digital society, and deep reflections — all in German, for advanced learners and native speakers alike.
