About me - Dave from Germany!
Hi, I’m Dave from the Sauerland, a beautiful German region filled with nature and forests in North Rhine Westphalia.
Ever since my childhood, I’ve been fascinated by the world we all live in.
Back in German elementary school, I began writing short stories which would then be ‘published’ in a folder, available for everyone to read in our class.
This is one of my earliest memories regarding my love for languages.
Throughout grammar school (‘das Gymnasium’), I focussed my studies around language-related subjects (German, English, Latin).
After my A-levels in 2011, I started my first YouTube channel “DaveDurdenTV” about Let’s Plays – which I’m still running to date.

Another important year that explains more about me and my love for content creation was 2015. You could even argue that this was the year that turned me into a more “professional” content creator / YouTuber. In late March, I got in touch with creator Get Germanized through social media. I had enjoyed his videos about the German language and culture for quite a while, and I thought of him as a cool and nice guy – turns out: He is indeed!
After having exchanged some messages back and forth, he invited me to his 100,000 subscribers celebration livestream on YouTube in early April of 2015. Without his awesome videos, I probably wouldn’t have created my own channel ‘VlogDave’ (now called ‘Definitely German’) a few days earller.
I remember that I took a bath when I finally decided to create my own different videos about the German language and culture. Ever since then, we’ve not only been YouTube colleagues, but also really good friends.
I was also fascinated by the YouTuber “SamWaltonMan”. He was an American exchange student in Stuttgart at the time. He filmed various informative, yet very humorous and entertaining vlogs about his US-American view on living in Germany as a foreigner.

THE GERMAN PODCAST
Back in the day, before the VlogDave channel didn’t exist, I also experimented with recording podcast episodes about gaming and music on my two channels, but I didn’t pursue that hobby steadily.
That changed in 2020, when I created THE GERMAN PODCAST, a podcast in German (duh!) for both native speakers and language learners alike. It wasn’t until mid 2021 though, when I set up a routine for my podcast.
Since then, a new episodes has aired every wednesday, each time with a different topic ranging from media (music, series, movies, games) and culturally interesting topics (lost places, dreaming etc.).
Hope you find joy and help in some of that, too!
